Basnet Law Pte. Ltd. takes two interns at a time, no more, into its Gelephu office for structured placements on live GMC matters. Two is the number a supervising lawyer can train properly, and it is why the selection is demanding. Interns are not observers. They work under a supervising lawyer on company formation filings, licence applications, research on the GMC Acts and the GFSO rulebooks, and client correspondence, and they are held to the same standard of accuracy as the lawyers they sit beside. Placements normally run for one to three months and are agreed around the academic calendar.
Who we accept
- Third-year law students and above, or recent graduates, from an LLB, JD or equivalent programme. We do not take applications from first- or second-year students.
- Common law grounding. Coursework, moots, clinics or prior placements in a common law system, because GMC is a common law jurisdiction and its statutes are read that way.
- A good understanding of corporate law, and of the other areas we practise: financial services regulation, tax, funds and family offices, digital assets, employment and immigration, and commercial disputes.
- Attention to detail and strong written English. You will read statutes to the last sub-section and draft documents that go to a regulator.
- Availability to work from Gelephu for the full placement period.
These are requirements, not preferences. With only two places at any one time, if you do not meet every one of them, please do not apply. Applications that fall short on any point are not taken forward, and we would rather you spend the time on a placement that fits.
What interns do
- Research and short memoranda on the GMC Acts, the applied statutes and the GFSO rulebooks.
- First drafts of incorporation filings, licence application sections and client updates, reviewed line by line with a supervising lawyer.
- Attendance at client calls, regulator meetings and registry visits where the matter allows.
- A written piece of work at the end of the placement that stays with the firm's published guides, with your name on it where it is published.

We acknowledge every application and reply within one to two business days. Shortlisted candidates have a conversation with a supervising lawyer and complete a short written exercise on a GMC statute.
